Best Granola in Australia (2026): Granola and Muesli Picks by Price, Protein and Diet

, 14 min reading time

The best granola in Australia, compared by price per 100 g, protein, grain-free and organic options, with what to check on the label and where to buy granola and muesli online.

Last updated: 30 October 2026

The best granola in Australia depends on what you want from it: a high-protein breakfast, a grain-free option, an organic muesli in bulk, or just something tasty that is not mostly sugar. Supermarket granola is easy to find, but the label often hides a small serve size and a long sweetener list, and specialty options such as paleo, activated and plant-protein granola are easier to find online.

Best Granola in Australia — top brands, flavours and where to buy

This guide explains the difference between granola and muesli, what to check on a label, and compares the granola and muesli we stock at Wallaby Wellness by price per 100 g, style and diet. If you are avoiding gluten, see our guide to gluten-free oats in Australia first.

Granola vs muesli: what is the difference?

  • Granola is oats, nuts and seeds baked with a sweetener (honey, maple, coconut sugar or similar) and usually an oil, which gives the crunchy clusters. It tends to be more energy-dense per spoonful.
  • Muesli is a mix of raw or lightly toasted oats, nuts, seeds and dried fruit with little or no added binder. It is usually less sweet and often cheaper per serve. You can soak it overnight.
  • Activated: nuts, seeds and grains are soaked and then dehydrated. Brands say this makes them easier to digest. The evidence for any digestive advantage is limited, so choose activated products because you like the taste and texture, not because of that claim.
  • Paleo and grain-free granola swaps oats for nuts, seeds and coconut. It is a good option if you avoid grains, but it is usually higher in fat and price.

How to choose a granola: what to check on the label

  1. Serving size. Many granolas list a serve of 30 to 45 g, which is much smaller than a typical breakfast bowl. Compare per 100 g, not per serve.
  2. Sugar per 100 g. Sugar comes from honey, syrups, coconut sugar and dried fruit as well as plain sugar. The Australian Dietary Guidelines advise limiting added sugars, and the World Health Organization suggests keeping free sugars below 10% of energy intake.
  3. Fibre. Oats, seeds and nuts add fibre. The Australian and New Zealand adequate intake for adults is about 25 g a day for women and 30 g for men.
  4. Protein. Some granolas add plant protein such as lupin. Check the grams per 100 g on the panel rather than relying on the front label.
  5. Fat quality. Coconut-heavy and nut-heavy granolas can be high in saturated fat or kilojoules. That is fine as part of a balanced diet, but it affects how much you should pour.
  6. Allergens and gluten. Nuts, seeds and oats are common allergens or cross-contamination risks. Oats are not automatically gluten-free.
  7. Health Star Rating. Where a pack shows one, it is a quick comparison tool between similar cereals, but check the panel too.

Where to buy granola online in Australia

Supermarkets stock mainstream granola brands, which is handy for a quick shop, but the range of paleo, grain-free, activated, organic and plant-protein options is much wider online. Buying online also makes it easier to compare pack sizes and price per 100 g, and larger bags usually cost less per serve. When you order, check the pack weight, the best-before date and whether the product is in stock before you commit to a bulk bag.

If you like to pair granola with a protein boost, our best protein powder guide and our best protein bars guide cover the rest of a high-protein routine.

How to eat granola and muesli

  • Measure a serve. Granola is easy to over-pour. Weigh 40 to 50 g a few times until you can judge it by eye.
  • Top, do not fill. Use it on yoghurt, fruit or porridge rather than as a whole bowl, if you want to keep kilojoules in check.
  • Soak muesli. Overnight soaking in milk, yoghurt or a milk alternative gives a softer, creamier texture.
  • Add protein and fruit. Greek yoghurt or a scoop of protein powder balances the carbohydrates and keeps you full longer.
  • Store airtight. Keep it sealed and away from heat so nuts and seeds do not go stale.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best granola in Australia?

The best granola is the one that suits your diet, has a short ingredient list, a sugar level you are comfortable with and a price per 100 g that works for you. For plant protein, look at Coastal Crunch Protein Crunch; for grain-free, the Mindful Foods Birchia; for the lowest price, YAVA.

Is granola healthy?

It can be a nutritious breakfast, because oats, nuts and seeds provide fibre and healthy fats. But granola is also often high in sugar and kilojoules per serve, so check the label and keep to a measured serve.

What is the difference between granola and muesli?

Granola is baked with a sweetener and oil to make clusters. Muesli is a raw or lightly toasted mix of oats, nuts, seeds and fruit that is usually less sweet.

How much sugar should granola have?

There is no single cut-off, but compare sugar per 100 g between products and check the ingredient list for syrups, honey and sugars. The Australian Dietary Guidelines advise limiting added sugars.

Is there a high-protein granola in Australia?

Yes. Some granolas add plant protein, such as lupin in Coastal Crunch Protein Crunch. Always check the protein per 100 g on the nutrition panel, as claims on the front of the pack vary.

Is granola gluten-free?

Not automatically. Oats are often processed alongside wheat, so a granola made with oats is only gluten-free if it is labelled that way. Grain-free granola made from nuts and seeds is an alternative, but check the label for cross-contamination.

Where can I buy granola online in Australia?

You can buy granola and muesli online from Wallaby Wellness, including organic, paleo, vegan and plant-protein options, and compare pack sizes and prices on one page.
